Albirex & Their Strikers

First there was Kenji Adichihara. After an impressive season with Albirex Niigata in 2009 he was snapped up by Indonesia Super League side Bontang where he had a couple of prolific seasons averaging just over a goal every two games.

It was no surprise when he was finally picked up by one of the bigger clubs when Persiba Balikpapan signed him for the last season and the goals kept a coming...13 in 32 games.

This earnt him another move, this time to Persib ahead of the new season, whenever that may be.

The Japanese striker turns 28 in November and has certainly made a mark in South East Asia.

The next Japanese striker to make an impact in the SLeague was Shotaro Ihata. He netted an impressive 22 goals in his debut season with Albirex before making the move to Home United where he teamed up with French striker Frederic Mendy.

Last night Yamakoshi Yasuhiro hit a ht trick for Albirex in a must win game away to the champions, Tampines. That lifted him up to 12 for the season.

If Albirex continue unearthing Japanese striking gems by tying them down to multi year contracts could ensure a steady procession of agents and clubs offering healthy prices for a highly sought after commodity

I remember something about the amazing season that Albirex Niigata had in 2009, I read an article on pay per head site about it some years back
